Black Panther's Michael B. Jordan Has Landed His Next Movie Project
Following his scene-stealing role in Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan is getting his future projects in order, and one is much closer to reality that a superhero movie. Jordan is now on board to produce The Liberators, a film following the 761st regiment in World War II, an African-American unit who is credited for paving the way for the desegregation of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Michael B. Jordan's production company Outlier Society Productions will co-produce The Liberators and while Variety reports that no decision has been made if Jordan will also appear in front of the camera as part of the cast, one has to assume there's a pretty good chance that will happen. Jordan has found additional ways to be involved in several projects that he's producing. Jordan will star in the new Thomas Crown Affair reboot and he'll make his directorial debut in The Stars Beneath Our Feet, both of which are also being produced by Outlier. Since The Liberators will obviously need a largely African-American cast, it seems unlikely that Jordan won't appear in one of the roles. Of course, he could also try to direct the film, or do all of the above if he's interested in trying to direct himself.
In addition to Michael B. Jordan's production company, the Liberators will be co-produced by Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold with Safehouse Pictures. Harold is one of the writers of the upcoming Flashpoint movie and he and Tunnell are also co-producing the upcoming Robin Hood reboot starring Taron Egerton.
Michael B. Jordan's next turn on the big screen will be in the upcoming sequel to the Rocky follow-up Creed. The movie will see the return of Rocky IV antagonist Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) and set the son of Apollo Creed against the son of the man who killed him in the ring. It will be out in November. He's also set to appear alongside Michael Shannon in HBO's adaptation of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 in May.
With Black Panther being the biggest movie we've seen in a long time, and Michael B. Jordan being given a lot of the credit for that success, we can expect many new projects to be coming his way in the future.
The Liberators sounds like an interesting project. It's still difficult to fathom that as late as the 1940s America's military was still racially segregated, so the movie will shine a light on this while showing off the heroism of African-American soldiers. This almost certainly an element of history that most are not familiar with, making it an excellent subject for a feature film.
