An Exhausted James Wan Reveals Aquaman Is Finally Complete

This year, DC is releasing only one movie in the form of Aquaman. What originally began as a joke on Entourage is now a full-blown movie with James Wan in the director's chair. Wan has been working on the film for the past two years, working hard to make a campy character serious while embracing the spirit of comic books. We won't know if Wan accomplished his mission until December, but the director can finally rest, because he has officially finished work on the film.

A very sleepy James Wan has taken to Instagram to share that he has officially completed work on Aquaman. The superhero movie is the first solo adventure for Aquaman, who debuted last year in Justice League. Wan took a moment to thank the post-production team who worked on the VFX, sound, and editing for devoting so much time to making this film. In a movie as technically complex as Aquaman, the special effects must have been insane to put together, so one can image the effort that was put into Aquaman by hundreds of people.

Judging by all the released footage for Aquaman, you can see why Wan gave his team a shoutout. There are loads of special effects and CGI in this movie. It takes place underwater, after all, which is complicated enough to begin with. Filming underwater scenes on set must have been challenging enough, but the VFX is what ties it all together.

Hopefully, all this work and sleepless nights will pay off. It's tough to judge the buzz around the film at the moment, but it looks like people are genuinely curious about what the movie has to offer. As far as dollars are concerned, the movie is currently projected to open to $60 million, which is in line with some Phase One Marvel movies. It's not a record-breaker, but it's realistic for a standalone superhero movie for a new franchise.

Aquaman is directed by James Wan and follows Arthur Curry, whose royal Atlantean ancestry makes him the rightful king of Atlantis. Arthur must juggle his royal destiny with own desires as he embarks on a quest with Mera (Amber Heard), to prevent a war between Atlantis and the surface world. The film stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman.

James Wan finished his movie with time to spare. Aquaman releases in theaters on December 21. To learn more details about the superhero movie, here's everything you need to know. How The Twilight Sets Changed From Movie To Movie, According To Kellan Lutz

When Twilight hit theaters now almost ten years ago, it was the beginning of a massive franchise. Friendships were melded over the shared love of the story and divisions were created between Team Edward versus Team Jacob. It was a pop culture phenomenon that propelled its young stars into celebrity status, as they were slapped on teen magazine covers and on their fans' bedroom posters. In my interview with Twilight's Kellan Lutz, he reminisced about how things changed on set as its actors became household names. In his words to CinemaBlend:

There was something so innocent and pure with all of us in that first movie because we weren't really aware what we are part of. So no one had their own security guards at that point. It was just fun hanging out, throwing the baseball. Everyone was pretty approachable and then as the movies progressed, it got crazy because people would show up on set so then we had more security guards and the people just went to their trailers versus congregating in the cafeteria and hanging out.

It looks like filming Twilight was the calm before the storm. Before the vampire love story came to theaters in 2008, names such as Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were blips on the radar. After their iconic roles graced the screen, adoring fans followed them wherever they went, even often to their filming locations. This popularity seemed to have a bit of an anti-social effect on the cast, who no longer hung out and had as much fun in between takes, per Kellan Lutz's comments.

The now 33-year-old actor said he enjoyed the experience of the first film the most because of director Catherine Hardwicke's vision of the movie and characters. Twilight had a much lower budget than the rest of the series' films and was combatting uncertainty from the studio of its success. An early script of the first film even had CIA agents on jet skis and Bella as a track star at her high school, according to Hardwicke. As any fan of the books can tell you, that would have been quite an imaginative adaptation of it.

For the cast of the Twilight franchise, those movies have kicked off and defined their careers even today. Kellan Lutz describes much of the fanbase as his friends today, some of whom he gets coffee with or receives birthday and Christmas cards from. It famously propelled the careers of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart into the spotlight, who are each currently working steadily in the indie space and have continually received acclaim for their work over the years.

Ten years later, Lutz says the cast have families and jobs around the world, so it's tough to get them all together for a reunion. They'll always have the fun and innocent moments in between shooting that iconic baseball scene and in the high school cafeteria. The first Twilight movie is now available on 4K.

For over four decades, Anthony Daniels has been present for every Star Wars movie, usually as C-3PO (although that wasnt the case for Solo: A Star Wars Story). So naturally it was expected that he would also be around for Episode IX later this year, and sure enough, Daniels will reprise the trusty and oblivious protocol droid skilled in over six million forms of communication for the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga. Or rather, he did, as Daniels is done filming his portions of Episode IX, commemorating the momentous occasion with the following:

The droid built for human-cyborg relations has finished his time on Star Wars: Episode IX (principal photography began last August), and as Anthony Daniels told his Twitter followers, its a bittersweet occasion. Still, clearly Daniels had a delightful time participating in the latest Star Wars movie and is looking forward to the masses seeing the final product come this December. Needless to say that it would have been weird if Daniels had not present for Episode IX considering how important C-3PO has been to the Star Wars franchise in its long history.

The last time we saw C-3PO on the big screen was in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, where he was among the few members of The Resistance who managed to escape being slaughtered by The First Order. Other than offering his usual brand of helpful commentary and chatting with R2-D2 and/or BB-8, its hard to say whats in store for C-3PO in Episode IX, although Im hoping we dont see anything as brutal as seeing the goldenrod droid destroyed without any hope of being pieced back together. That could be too dark, which is saying something considering what weve seen in the Star Wars movies.

As for if Anthony Daniels will appear in future live action Star Wars projects, thats hard to say. Although Rian Johnsons trilogy and the David Benioff and D.B Weiss film series are both in development, not only do we not know when either of these respective spinoff sets of movies will be released, it also hasnt been revealed when any of these movies will be set. Theres also The Mandalorian TV series for Disney+, although since thats set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, then its plausible that C-3PO could appear in that, even if just for an episode. Or, just like how Anthony Daniels played a slave on Kessel during Solo: A Star Wars Story, he could be brought in to play a different character in one of these projects.
