Brie Larson Had To Work On Her 'Cool' Face For Captain Marvel

It took a lot for Room actress Brie Larson to become Captain Marvel. Weve seen the posts of the months of workouts the actress accomplished to get into shape. However, it takes more than heavy lifting and donning an expensive suit in order to truly become the types of heroes weve come to expect in the MCU. Recently, Brie Larson revealed she actually had to train to learn what she dubs Carol Danvers cool face.

During a recent visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actress revealed that she actually worked with the stunt coordinators on Captain Marvels stances. There are moments we see the character in trailers and in posters looking extremely fierce, moments that did not come naturally to Brie Larson, who revealed her cool face was just one of tons of things she had to learn in order to play the character. She said:

I trained for nine months and got super strong. But then also you have to learn weird things, like how to make a cool face. Yeah, they usually are laughing at you while you are trying to find it because its hard. At least, I mean it was for me. I would just bust up laughing. So, when I look at all of those posters with like my flaming hair and stuff it cracks me up because I know where I started.

In particular, Brie Larson mentions a scene that fans of the movie have already seen in the trailers. She said the scene is hard to miss because her hair is on fire and she looks somewhat otherworldly, but that it took a long time before she got to that point with the coordinators on set.

In fact, she even showed Kimmel what her original face looked like while she was practicing. Long story short, its easy to see why her cool face ended up being something Brie Larson really had to work at to play the iconic character.

I mean, thats cute, but its not exactly as worldly and wary as the look she ultimately gives, a look thats been splashed all over the marketing for Captain Marvel.

Millions of dollars are bandied about to make movies like Captain Marvel a reality. So while in some ways its ridiculous to think about someone being at their job and being told they need to work on their cool face, in other ways, we totally wouldnt buy Brie Larson looking wide-eyed and amused at the camera.

Studios really need to get these details right in order to sell a character to the audience and I suppose Im as thankful that Brie Larson practiced this as much as she did myriad lunges and squats.

We wont have too much longer to wait and see if Captain Marvel is all that and a bag of potato chips. (Feel free to insert another nineties phrase if you have a better one.) The new MCU movie officially hits theaters on March 8, 2019. Fantastic Beasts Claudia Kim Responds To Nagini Racism Controversy

There are few franchises quite as beloved as Harry Potter. Beginning with J.K. Rowling's acclaimed series of novels, the Wizarding World has expanded greatly throughout the years, including film franchises, a theme park, and even a Broadway play. The Fantastic Beasts series is currently moving full speed ahead, with David Ayer's The Crimes of Grindelwald helping to expand the universe and its characters.

One newcomer to Crimes of Grindelwald is actress Claudia Kim, who will play the human form of Voldemort's Snake/Horocrux Nagini. Once her role was announced, there was some controversy from those claiming Nagini's subservient role was a step backward for Asian representation. Now Kim has responded to the issue, saying:

It was unexpected. When I found out that I'm playing Nagini, I thought it was meaningful because it's an important character in the Harry Potter series. Harry Potter is a franchise film with many caucasian actors, so I thought many Korean viewers would be happy. I'm looking forward to viewers being satisfied and the controversy fading away once the film premieres. I don't perceive such controversy solely in a negative way. I believe changes can be made by giving attention to an Asian's promotions (like this) and through the people that look into such issues.

It seems that Claudia Kim doesn't seem to understand the controversy around her role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. On the contrary, she saw having an Asian woman in such a popular franchise was a step forward towards on screen representation. Clearly, there are many layers to this particular issue.

Claudia Kim's comments, courtesy of All K Pop, continue the conversation around Nagini's upcoming role in The Crimes of Grindelwald. While fans are eager to see how the young witch eventually transformed into Voldermort's horocrux and a murderous snake, some advocates took umbrage with an Asian woman playing essentially a servant to the Dark Lord.

In her same conversation, Claudia Kim remained steadfast in her thoughts about Nagini, and encouraged moviegoers and critics to see the film for themselves before they jump to conclusions about its mysterious contents. As she tells it,

I'm looking forward to viewers being satisfied and the controversy fading away once the film premieres. I don't perceive such controversy solely in a negative way. I believe changes can be made by giving attention to an Asian's promotions (like this) and through the people that look into such issues.

Claudia Kim's comments seem to echo that of her co-star Ezra Miller, who plays troubled young wizard Credence Barebone. Just days ago, Miller made his own blunt statement about the subject-- although he used more colorful language than Kim did. But the statement is the same: audiences should see The Crimes of Grindelwald in its entirety before jumping to conclusions about Nagini's role.

James Gunn Reportedly Even Wrote Dialogue For Avengers: Infinity War

Although the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies had loose connections to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for the most part, these stories were self-contained and could be enjoyed without having seen any other MCU entires. However, later this month we'll finally see Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Mantis and Nebula interact with this franchise's Earth-bound heroes in Avengers: Infinity War. But it isn't just the on-screen Guardians talent who are contributing to the movie. James Gunn, who is responsible for bringing the Guardians to life on the big screen, is one of Infinity War's executive producers, and reportedly some of his duties including writing dialogue for the team of intergalactic a-holes.

Dave Bautista, the man playing Drax the Destroyer in the MCU, appeared at Awesome Con in Washington D.C. this past weekend, and during the Q&A (via Super Bro Movies), the wrestler-turned-actor mentioned that James Gunn wrote some of the Guardians of the Galaxy's lines in Avengers: Infinity War. Gunn previously said that as an executive producer, he was working with the Russos, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feign and all there other MCU bigwigs to ensure that any of the characters he's involved with "are well taken care of and are as funny as they should be, and is are as honest and truthful as they should be," so hearing that he wrote some of the Guardians dialogue isn't too surprising.

As far Marvel's movies realm goes, no one knows these particular characters better than Gunn, as he both directed and wrote Guardians of the Galaxy (though Nicole Perlman also contributed to the script) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Obviously Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were ultimately in charge of Avengers: Infinity War's script, but if Gunn could help with making their lines sound more authentic and similar to how they spoke in their previous appearances, then I'm sure those contributions were invaluable.

Over the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, we've watched these characters go from a loosely-formed team of outsiders to a close, albeit dysfunctional family. Avengers: Infinity War picks up approximately four years after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and aside from Groot now being a sassy adolescent, the team dynamic looks exactly the same. While the Guardians have presumably kept up their adventurous lifestyle, they will face their biggest challenge yet, as Thanos and his minions are seeking the Infinity Stones. Working alongside heroes like Thor, Iron Man, Spider-Man and plenty more, these cosmic heroes will need to stop Gamora's "father" from rewriting reality as he sees fit, but on the plus side, at least now Peter Quill can finally hang out on Earth after spending approximately 30 years away.

Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on April 27, and the Guardians of the Galaxy will also be back for Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019.
